Ghazal 115

pull up the sapling of enmity, for it brings countless pains.
When you are the tavern's guest, treat the rends with honour,
for you will have a sore head, my dear, if drunkenness brings a hangover.

bears a hundred roses like the wild rose and brings a thousand nightingales.
For God's sake, since my wounded heart has made a pact with your tress,
order your sweet ruby lip to bring it quickly to rest.
In this garden Hafez, in his old age, asks of God
to sit at the edge of a stream and hold a cypress at his side.
Cultivate friendship and avoid enmity: you will reap what you plant. Treat everyone with respect and value time spent with friends, because life is passing. Seasons return, but your own life does not. Your wish for a meeting and for peace will be granted; ask God for exactly that.
