Ghazal 134

A nightingale drank its heart's blood and won a rose;
the wind of jealousy scattered its heart with a hundred thorns.

A parrot was happy in the fancy of some sugar;
suddenly the flood of extinction wiped out the picture of its hope.

The light of my eyes, that fruit of my heart, may he be remembered,
who went so easily himself and made my lot so hard.

Camel driver, my load has fallen; help, for God's sake,
for it was hope of kindness that made me travel with this litter.

Do not despise my dusty face and the wet of my eyes;
the turquoise wheel has built its house of joy from this straw and clay.

Alas and alas that, from the envious eye of the moon in the sky,
my moon with the bow-shaped eyebrow has made his dwelling in the grave.

You did not castle, Hafez, and the chance has gone;
what can I do? The play of time made me heedless.

This fal asks you to be gentle with your grief and to seek help. Do not overlook the chances you still have, and value those you love while they are here.
