Ghazal 150

If the cupbearer pours wine into the cup in this fashion,
he will throw all the gnostics into endless drinking.

And if he sets the grain of the mole beneath the curl of the tress like this,
how many a bird of reason he will throw into the snare!

Happy the fortune of that drunkard who, at the companion's feet,
does not know which to throw down, his head or his turban.

The raw ascetic who denies wine and cup
will be ripened when he throws a glance at the raw wine.

By day strive to gain skill, for drinking wine by day
throws the mirror-like heart into the rust of darkness.

The time for wine bright as morning is when night
throws the curtain of evening around the tent of the horizon.

Take care not to drink wine with the city's morals officer;
he will drink your wine and throw a stone at the cup.

Hafez, raise your head from under the corner of the sun's cap,
if your fortune throws the lot toward that full moon.

A powerful attraction is at work, one that catches even the wise. Everything has its time: spend the day on work and learning, and keep pleasure for its proper hour. Do not share your table with someone who is outwardly with you and inwardly against you. If luck helps, you will gain what you want.
