Ghazal 173
In my prayer the curve of your eyebrow came to mind;
such a state came over me that the prayer niche cried out.
Do not expect patience, heart and good sense of me now,
for that endurance you saw has all gone to the wind.
The wine has cleared and the birds of the meadow are drunk;
it is the season of love, and things have come right at the root.
I catch the scent of better times in the state of the world;
the rose has brought gladness and the morning breeze has come in joy.
O bride of skill, do not complain of your fortune;
adorn the bridal chamber of beauty, for the bridegroom has come.
The charming plants have all put on their ornaments;
it is our beloved who has come with God-given beauty.
The trees that have attachments are bowed under their load;
happy the cypress, which has come free of the burden of grief.
Minstrel, sing a fine ghazal from the words of Hafez,
that I may say: I am reminded of the time of joy.
The thought of someone has so taken hold of you that you have no rest. The good news is that times are improving and a season of love and gladness has come. Do not complain of your luck: what you were waiting for has arrived, so make yourself ready for it. The fewer your entanglements, the more at ease you will be.
