Ghazal 174
Good news, O heart: the morning breeze has come back;
the hoopoe with glad tidings has come back from the land of Sheba.
Raise again, O bird of dawn, the song of David,
for the Solomon of the rose has come back on the wind.
Where is a knowing one who understands the language of the lily,
to ask why it went and why it has come back?
God-given grace has dealt humanely and generously with me,
for that moon-faced idol has come back by the road of faithfulness.
The tulip caught the scent of sweet wine from the breath of dawn;
its heart was branded, and it has come back in hope of a cure.
My eye stayed fixed on the road of this caravan
until the sound of the bell came back to the ear of my heart.
Though Hafez knocked at the door of offence and broke the pact,
see her kindness, that in kindness she has come back to our door.
Good news: the one who went away is coming back, and glad tidings are on their way. Your waiting is over. Even though you gave offence or let the bond slacken, they have returned out of kindness. This time value them properly, and answer with loyalty and warmth.
