Ghazal 176
At dawn wakeful fortune came to my bedside
and said: rise, for that sweet Khosrow has come.
Drain a cup and stroll out merrily to look,
to see in what fashion your beauty has come.
Give a reward for good news, O recluse who opens the musk pod,
for from the plain of Khotan a musk deer has come.
Weeping brought water back to the faces of the burned;
lamenting came to the rescue of the poor lover.
The bird of the heart is again the partisan of a bow-browed one;
O dove, be watchful, for the falcon has come.
Cupbearer, give wine and do not grieve over enemy or friend,
for to our heart's desire that one has gone and this one has come.
When the spring cloud saw how time breaks its promises,
its weeping fell on jasmine, hyacinth and wild rose.
When the breeze heard the words of Hafez from the nightingale,
it came scattering amber to look at the sweet herbs.
Wakeful fortune has come to you and the one you were waiting for has arrived; get up and go to meet them. Your tears and appeals have had their effect. Your heart is caught again, so stay alert. Do not trouble yourself over friend or foe, because what you wanted has come about. This is a good fal.
