Ghazal 225

ساقی حدیث سرو و گل و لاله می‌رود
وین بحث با ثلاثهٔ غساله می‌رود

می ده که نوعروس چمن حد حسن یافت
کار این زمان ز صنعت دلاله می‌رود

شکرشکن شوند همه طوطیان هند
زین قند پارسی که به بنگاله می‌رود

طی مکان ببین و زمان در سلوک شعر
کاین طفل یک شبه ره یک ساله می‌رود

آن چشم جادوانهٔ عابدفریب بین
کش کاروان سحر ز دنباله می‌رود

از ره مرو به عشوهٔ دنیا که این عجوز
مکاره می‌نشیند و محتاله می‌رود

باد بهار می‌وزد از گلستان شاه
وز ژاله باده در قدح لاله می‌رود

حافظ ز شوق مجلس سلطان غیاث دین
غافل مشو که کار تو از ناله می‌رود

Cupbearer, the talk is of the cypress, the rose and the tulip,
and this discussion goes along with the three cleansing cups.

Give wine, for the new bride of the meadow has reached the height of beauty;
at this hour the work is done by the art of the matchmaker.

All the parrots of India will be cracking sugar
on this Persian candy that is going to Bengal.

See how verse on its journey folds up space and time,
for this child of a single night is travelling a year's road.

See that sorcerer's eye that deceives the devout,
with the caravan of magic following in its train.

Do not be led astray by the world's coquetry, for this old hag
sits down as a cheat and moves on as a trickster.

The wind of spring is blowing from the rose garden of the king,
and from the dew wine is flowing into the goblet of the tulip.

Hafez, of your longing for the court of Sultan Ghiyas al-Din
do not be neglectful, for your affair goes forward through lament.

Your work and your words will travel far and will bear fruit much sooner than you imagine. The time is favourable and everything is ready. Only do not be deceived by the world's attractions, which are neither lasting nor true. Pursue your request with the one who can grant it, and do not give up asking.
