Ghazal 317

فاش می‌گویم و از گفتهٔ خود دلشادم
بندهٔ عشقم و از هر دو جهان آزادم

طایر گلشن قدسم چه دهم شرح فراق؟
که در این دامگه حادثه چون افتادم

من ملک بودم و فردوس برین جایم بود
آدم آورد در این دیر خراب‌آبادم

سایهٔ طوبی و دلجویی حور و لب حوض
به هوای سر کوی تو برفت از یادم

نیست بر لوح دلم جز الف قامت دوست
چه کنم حرف دگر یاد نداد استادم

کوکب بخت مرا هیچ منجم نشناخت
یا رب از مادر گیتی به چه طالع زادم؟

تا شدم حلقه به گوش در میخانهٔ عشق
هر دم آید غمی از نو به مبارکبادم

می‌خورد خون دلم مردمک دیده، سزاست
که چرا دل به جگرگوشهٔ مردم دادم

پاک کن چهرهٔ حافظ به سر زلف ز اشک
ور نه این سیل دمادم ببرد بنیادم

I say it openly, and I am glad at heart for what I say:
I am the slave of love, and I am free of both worlds.

I am a bird of the garden of holiness; how shall I tell of the parting,
of how I fell into this snare of what befalls?

I was an angel, and highest paradise was my place;
Adam brought me into this ruined monastery of a world.

The shade of the tree of paradise, the comfort of the houris, the edge of the pool,
all left my memory in longing for the head of your street.

On the tablet of my heart there is nothing but the alif of the friend's stature;
what can I do? My teacher taught me no other letter.

No astrologer has ever recognised the star of my fortune;
O Lord, under what ascendant was I born of mother world?

Ever since I became a ringed slave at the door of love's tavern,
at every moment a new grief comes to offer me its congratulations.

The pupil of my eye is drinking my heart's blood, and it is deserved:
why did I give my heart to the darling of other people's hearts?

Wipe the tears from Hafez's face with the tip of your tress,
or else this ceaseless flood will carry away my foundations.
