Ghazal 326: In the hidden house of pleasure I have a lovely idol
In the hidden house of pleasure I have a lovely idol,
because of whose tress and cheek I have no rest, like a horseshoe in the fire.
I am a lover, a rend and a drinker of wine, and I say so aloud;
and all these offices I hold from that fairy-like houri.
If you go on keeping me in this way without order or home,
I will keep your tress in disorder with my sighs at dawn.
If the dark down of the friend shows its face like this,
I shall keep my yellow cheek painted with tears of blood.
If you will take one step into the dwelling of the rends,
I have sweetmeats of sugared verse and wine without blemish.
Bring the arrow of your glance and the rope of your tress, for I
have battles to fight with my wounded, long-suffering heart.
O Hafez, since the grief and the joy of the world are passing,
it is better that I should keep my mind glad.
Interpretation of the fal
You have a secret attachment that has taken your peace, yet you accept it openly and trace your whole state to that person. If they keep you unsettled, your sighs will not be without effect. What you have, sweet words and an honest heart, is enough to welcome them with. Sorrow and joy both pass: it is better to keep your heart glad.
