Ghazal 363
My pain comes from the friend, and my cure as well;
my heart has become his sacrifice, and my soul as well.
The thing they speak of as "that which is sweeter than beauty",
our friend has this, and has that as well.
Be it remembered: the one who, set on shedding our blood,
broke the covenant, and the pledge as well.
Friends, I am speaking these words behind the veil;
they will be told in tales as well.
Since the fortune of the nights of union has come to an end,
the days of separation will pass as well.
Both worlds are a single gleam from his face;
I have told you this openly, and in secret as well.
There is no relying on the affairs of the world,
nor on the turning sphere as well.
A lover does not fear the judge; bring wine,
nor the inquisitor of the court as well.
The censor knows that Hafez is a lover,
and the vizier of Solomon's kingdom knows it as well.
Both your pain and your cure come from that person, so look for the remedy with them. The one you love has every good quality at once, even though they have also broken a promise. Just as the happy days passed, the time of separation will pass too. Do not rely on any state of the world. Do not hide your love, and do not fear other people's judgement.
