Ghazal 472: I praise God for the justice of the sultan

I praise God for the justice of the sultan,
Ahmad, son of Shaykh Uvays, son of Hasan, the Ilkhanid.

A khan and the son of a khan, a king of kings of royal descent,
whom it would be fitting to call the soul of the world.

The eye, without having seen you, has put its faith in your fortune;
welcome, O you who are worthy of such grace from God.

If the moon should rise without you, they would strike it in two:
this is the fortune of Ahmad and the miracle of the Glorious.

The display of your fortune steals the heart of king and beggar alike;
may the evil eye be far, for you are both soul and beloved.

Curl your forelock in the Turkish way, for in your star there are
the generosity of a Khaqan and the striving of a Genghis Khan.

Though we are far away, we take up the cup in memory of you;
there is no distance between stages on the journey of the spirit.

No bud of pleasure has opened for me from the rose of Persia;
how good are the Tigris of Baghdad and the fragrant wine.

The head of a lover that is not dust at the beloved's door:
when will it be free from the affliction of wandering?

O breeze of dawn, bring the dust of the friend's door,
that Hafez may make the eye of his heart bright with it.

Interpretation of the fal

Your hopes are set on a person of high rank and justice in a distant place: the hope is well founded. Distance on the road is no bar to the bond between hearts. Where you are now you have not flourished as you wished, and your heart longs for somewhere else. Until you give your heart to one place you will not be free of wandering. Ask them for a sign, and your heart will be lit.
