Ghazal 49

The garden of highest paradise is the retreat of dervishes;
the source of true grandeur is the service of dervishes.

The treasure of seclusion, with its wondrous talismans,
is opened by the merciful glance of dervishes.

The palace of paradise, where Rizwan went as doorkeeper,
is one view from the pleasure garden of dervishes.

That by whose ray the black heart turns to gold
is an alchemy found in the company of dervishes.

That before which the sun lays down its crown of pride
is a majesty found in the dignity of dervishes.

The fortune that has no fear of the harm of decline,
hear it plainly, is the fortune of dervishes.

Kings are the qibla of the world's needs, but
the reason is their service at the court of dervishes.

The face of the goal that kings seek by prayer
is shown in the mirror of the countenance of dervishes.

From end to end there is the army of tyranny, but
from before time to after time the hour belongs to dervishes.

O rich man, do not sell so much arrogance, for
your head and gold are in the shelter of the will of dervishes.

Korah's treasure, which still sinks down under wrath,
you will have read, is also from the jealous honour of dervishes.

Hafez, if you want the eternal water of life,
its source is the dust at the door of the retreat of dervishes.

I am the slave of the glance of the Asaf of the age,
who has the form of a master and the character of dervishes.

What you seek is found in the company of simple, sincere, unassuming people, not with the rich and powerful. Serve such people and benefit from their goodwill. If you are well off, stay humble. Injustice does not last, and the happiness that cannot be taken away belongs to hearts that need little.
