Ghazal 475: People said that you are a second Joseph
People said that you are a second Joseph;
when I looked closely, in truth you are better than that.
With your sugared smile you are sweeter than I can say,
O Khosrow of the beautiful, for you are the Shirin of the age.
Your mouth cannot be compared to a rosebud;
never was there a bud with a mouth as small as this.
A hundred times you said: "I will grant your wish from this mouth."
Why, like the free lily, are you nothing but tongue?
You say: "I will grant your wish and take your life."
I fear you will not grant my wish, and will take my life.
Your eye sends its arrow through the shield of the soul;
who ever saw a sick man draw so hard a bow?
You let him fall like a tear from the eyes of everyone,
the one whom you drive for a moment out of your own sight.
Interpretation of the fal
The one you have given your heart to is even better than what is said of them, but they promise much and do not act. Ask them to keep their word and talk less. You fear paying a heavy price without getting what you want: bear that in mind. Their neglect lowers you in the eyes of others too: stay close to them.
